NZ Natural History

Entries for the MPS NZ Natural History Competition are now open. The closing date for entries for this annual competition is Sunday 3 May 2026.

This will be an online meeting only on Google Meet at 7:30pm Tuesday 26 May 2026.

Our judge is Vivianne Baldwin FPSNZ AFIAP who will be providing written commentary.

Guidelines and rules:

• This competition is digital only.
• Entries must be uploaded by midnight Sunday 3 May 2026. Click HERE to upload photos.
• Members may enter up to 10 images. They must have been taken in New Zealand. Images may have been entered in other competitions, including club night competitions, but not in previous MPS NZ Natural History competitions or been selected for any Trenna Packer Salver Natural History competitions.

• Digital images should be saved as for our club nights – 1920 x 1080.

• Titles as follows; MPS_NH26_1_Joe_Handsome_Scientific name and/or Common name.jpg. A description referring to the scientific subject may also be included in the title.

• Honours and Highly Commended images will be selected and the Best image will be awarded the MPS Natural History Cup, donated by John and Margaret Penney.

• Images will also be selected to be part of our club’s entry in the Nature Photography Society of New Zealand Trenna Packer Natural History competition. The winning images will not necessarily form part of the Trenna Packer entry as creating a cohesive set is paramount.

• All images remain the property of the photographer

• Entrants should abide by the PSNZ definitions for Nature and New Zealand Nature (Subcategory of Nature). Please read carefully – https://photography.org.nz/about/definitions/
